Capital On Tap launches Virgin points transfers

Their first non-Avios airline transfer partner

COT are on a roll in 2025. New features, new tiers and now (another) new points transfer partner. This takes the total to five, when, less than a year ago, they just had BA. Their free and paid cards are credible alternatives to American Express for SMEs.

What’s been announced

For a long time, Capital On Tap was wedded to British Airways. Their business-only credit card allows you to earn COT points, which you could transfer to BA at a healthy 1:1 rate. Given that the card is a Visa, it was a great backup card for an American Express.

In 2025, they made some significant changes to their credit cards, bringing in a new (and more expensive) tier. Since then, they’ve been busy rolling out new features and expanding their partnerships at a fast pace. It’s been a significant year for them, and it’s been generally positive for their customers.

If you want to know a little bit more about what goes on behind the scenes at Capital On Tap, I interviewed their product director Nik Haukohl earlier this year.

The first new partnership was Radisson. They were more than just a points transfer partner, as paying for the COT Pro plan (£299/year) gives you complimentary Radisson VIP status. You can transfer COT points to Radisson at a 1:3 rate.

Their next partnership was Qatar. It wasn’t the most exciting addition, as you can easily move Avios from BA to Qatar.

Partnering with Virgin

Now they’re venturing outside of Avios with the launch of two Virgin partnerships.

You can now transfer COT points to either Virgin Atlantic or Virgin Red at a 1:1 rate.

This is a positive change. Capital On Tap now covers the two largest UK long-haul airlines. Amex has more partnerships with carriers, but some of those have been devalued, and in some cases, partnerships have disappeared. They also have a points transfer agreement with Virgin at a 1:1 rate.

The UK credit card market is pretty shallow when it comes to points-earning cards. American Express is the best known and covers both personal and business cards. Barclays entered the fray with their Avios earning credit card, whilst airline-specific cards have depleted over the years.

For SME’s, Capital On Tap is really the only alternative to American Express if you want to earn points. It was useful when it was an Avios-only card, but with the addition of Virgin as a partner, it’s become a critical component in a points earning strategy.

The Capital On Tap perks

Capital On Tap has a free plan, which will give you a card that earns 1 Capital On Tap card for every £1 you spend. You can transfer these points to Avios or Virgin at a rate of 10:8, so 10 COT points will get you 8 Avios. You can also use points to buy gift cards.

The COT Pro Plan costs £299 a year. You earn COT points at a 1/£1 rate, and you can then swap them to Avios or Virgin points at a 1:1 rate.

  • You get a Priority Pass membership which gives you access to airport lounges.
  • A digital subscription to The TImes and Sunday Times. This is worth upto £30/month.
  • Free Radisson VIP membership. This is the top tier of Radisson’s reward scheme (more on this below)
  • Six months free Xero support.

Radisson VIP membership

While you hold a Capital On Tap Pro membership, you’ll be given Radisson VIP status. This is genuinely useful due to one significant perk: free breakfast for up to two people every night you stay. This is similar to the Hilton Gold perk.

You’ll also be eligible for free upgrades, free ironing, and you’ll earn Radisson points at an increased rate. Non-members earn at a rate of 8 points per $1 spent, VIP members earn at 36/$1, which is a 4x increase.
