An easy-to-reach top-tier, with some valuable benefits
It’s easy to overlook GHA Discovery. You may not have heard of the scheme, but you have probably heard of some of the brands that use it: Anantara, Capella, NH, Kepmisnki, and there are 46 more. It’s not the biggest loyalty scheme, covering just over a thousand venues, but it does have some fantastic high-end hotels within it.
Update May 2026
You can get the highest tier with GHA Discovery by status matching with another hotel provider or airline. The matches are generous, but require you to pay a fee.
What is GHA Discovery
It’s one of the lesser-known hotel loyalty schemes, covering around 1,000 hotels worldwide. It’s used by 50 different brands that include:
- Capella
- Anantara
- Pan Pacific
- NH Collection
- Kempinski
There’s a skewing towards Europe, the Middle East and Far East. GHA Discovery covers 388 hotels in Europe, 288 in Asia and 115 in the Middle East. There are just 40 hotels in North America that use the loyalty scheme.
We’ve actually been to a few of their brands. We’ve visited the Anantara Desaru Coast twice, and their hotel on Banana Island in Doha. We also had a great stay at the Pan Pacific in Singapore, and the outstanding Capella on Sentosa Island. We’re also due to stay in an NH and Capella on an upcoming trip to Thailand.
What perks do you get with GHA Discovery?
GHA runs on Discovery Dollars. You earn these when you stay at a hotel, but also when you add things to your bill, like food or Spa sessions.
You can then use these dollars at checkout. One of my biggest bugbears with the scheme is that you can’t use your dollars at the point of booking. You also have to request that the discovery dollars be used on checkout; it’s not done automatically.
Discovery dollars convert into US Dollars at a rate of 1:1. That means if you have 100 Discovery Dollars, it will reduce your bill by 100 USD, or the equivalent in local currency.
There are four tiers in the scheme, and your earn rate increases as you move upwards. You also get additional perks as you progress.

GHA Discovery Silver
You earn Discovery Dollars at a rate of 4%, and other perks include free wi-fi and member-only rates. This is the entry-level tier that you get when you join the scheme.
GHA Discovery Gold
Once you have stayed at the GHA property twice or spent over a thousand US Dollars, you’ll move up to Gold.
The only difference between Gold and Silver is the earning rate. You earn Discovery Dollars at a rate of 5% instead of 4%. Given that you only need to have two stays, it’s relatively easy to move up.
GHA Discovery Platinum
Platinum requires you to stay ten nights in a GHA property, spending more than 5,000 USD, or staying at two brands. That’s much more achievable than other hotel schemes.
At the Platinum level, the perks start to get more interesting. As well as an increased Discovery Dollar earn rate (6%) you’ll also be entitled to a room upgrade (subject to availability) as well as a 3pm checkout (also subject to availability). You’ll also be entitled to a welcome amenity, the quality of which depends on the brand. At the higher end, with Capella, you may get a bottle of champagne or wine.
GHA Discovery Titanium
This is the top tier for GHA Discovery, and hitting it requires staying thirty nights or spending $15,000 OR staying at three different brands.
You will get the highest Discovery Dollar earn rate (7%), get complimentary breakfast, get early 11am check-in and late 4pm checkout. Both are subject to availability, and the Titanium level gets you can extra hour on check-out versus Platinum.
The most valuable perk is the double room upgrade. You’ll move up two room types, subject to availability. There are limitations: some brands will not move you up to a suite if you’re at the top, or second-to-top, room type. They may also consider a room on a higher floor as an upgrade. Still, it’s a great perk if the hotel honours it.

Partner Perks
GHA partners with Beond, the business-class-only airline that flies exclusively to the Maldives. Beond are due to start flights to London later this year. You’re entitled to 15% off on flights up to the 31st December 2026.
There’s also a partnership with Blacklane. GHA Discovery Gold (or higher) members get a 5% discount on bookings. Platinum tier members will also get four Blacklane vouchers worth $20 each. Titanium tier members will get five vouchers worth $25.
How likely are you to get an upgrade?
My experience with upgrade perks across hotel groups is mixed. Despite being a Hilton Gold I have never had an upgrade at one of their properties. Meanwhile, my Radisson VIP status has got me upgraded every time I stay with them.
The consensus with GHA Discovery is that you are likely to get an upgrade. I mentioned before that you may not get upgraded from a room to a suite, even if you are in the best type of room. You may also not get upgraded if you’re staying in a one-bedroom villa, and the next step up is a two-bedroom.
Given that GHA is a collection of independent brands, it means that you are likely to experience more success with some brands than others. You are also more likely to get the single upgrade than the double upgrade, simply because that will cost the brand more, and is more likely to put you into a suite.
Sometimes the benefits work against you. The early check-in benefit means you can get into a room from 11am, but the later you check in, the more likely you are to get an upgrade, as a hotel will have a better understanding of unsold inventory the later it is in the day. Shorter stays can also give you a better chance of an upgrade; it’s easier to get someone into a better room on a two-night stay than on a seven-night stay.
Finally, staying during off-peak times of the year, or days of the week, means there are fewer bookings in the hotel, and a great chance of rooms being free that they can upgrade you into.
How do you earn Discovery Dollars?
If you book a room directly with a GHA brand, or through the GHA Discovery website then you’ll earn Discovery Dollars on your booking. If you put extra charges through your room, then you’ll earn on those when you check out.
There are also promotions that give either an increased earn rate or a set Discovery Dollar bonus. One easy promotion to use is to book via the GHA app, which will give you an extra 5 Discovery Dollars for each booking.
You can also buy Discovery Dollars, although at the time of writing, the page to buy them on Points.com just returns an error saying “this offer is no longer available”.
You will not earn Discovery Dollars unless you book with GHA direct, or with the brand directly. This is the same with all hotel schemes. The pricing you see on the GHA website should match the pricing on the individual brands’ websites; there may be minor differences. A quick check on a Kempinski hotel shows that it’s 8p per night cheaper.
You can, however, earn cashback on hotel bookings via sites like TopCashback. At the time of writing, you can get 6.3% cashback if you book with NH hotels or 3.15% with Anantara. This will not impact your points earning.

How do you spend Discovery Dollars?
You can use Discovery Dollars to reduce your bill when you check out of a GHA hotel. Some brands allow you to use your dollars at the time of booking, but not all of them. Kempinski does, as does the Capella. The Antara brand does not.
You can easily see if a brand allows you to use your Discovery dollars at the point of booking by going through the GHA Discovery website and their search. Once you select a rate, it will show the option to use Discovery Dollars at the top.
Of the 50 brands that use GHA, 45 allow you to use your dollars when you book.
This is my biggest frustration with the scheme. I’ve checked out of Antara hotels and forgotten to ask for my Discovery Dollars to be used, and if I’m not due to stay at a GHA hotel for a while, there’s a chance that my points will lapse.
You can also spend Discovery Dollars at nine restaurants in London that are managed by The Wolsely Group. The spend rate is the same as staying at a hotel; 1 Discovery Dollar is worth 1 US Dollar, or the equivalent in British pounds.
How long do Discovery Dollars last?
Discovery Dollars you earn from hotel stays last between 12 and 24 months. Silver members’ points last for 12 months, Gold is 18 months, whilst both Platinum and Titanium tiers will give points a lifetime of 24 months.
Points you earn from promotions will usually only last six months. This isn’t front-and-centre in the promos; it’s hidden away in the terms and conditions.
Your points will lapse based on when you earned them. The GHA Discovery scheme is not one where you just need activity in a period to keep your points active. That means it’s very easy to lose the value of your points.
Should you join GHA Discovery?
It’s free to join, and the base level allows you to earn dollars as well as opening up “members only” rates. It’s a no-brainer if you’re going to stay at a hotel brand that uses GHA. Over time, we’ve used the scheme more and more. We initially joined as we were booking a stay at an Antatra.
Where the scheme falls down is the limited number of hotels in the UK. There are twenty in the UK, all but one is in London. While some hotels outside of the UK are budget-friendly, the UK hotels all carry high nightly rates, meaning it’s less useful if you want a cheap place to stay in the capital.
For leisure trips outside of the UK, especially the Middle East and Asia, the scheme is more useful.
