Avios-collecting customers
British Airways has been ramping up its Avios-only flights, but sister airline Aer Lingus has avoided this approach – until now. It’s a small step, but they’ve announced their first Avios-only flight.
What is an Avios Only flight?
It’s usually a pair of flights (one outbound, one inbound) to a destination on specific dates that are typically a week apart. Anyone can buy seats on the flight as normal, but if you want to use Avios to book, then every available seat is up for grabs.
Usually, BA guarantees just four business seats, two premium economy seats, and eight economy seats per flight. It’s a nice way to ensure that points collectors will be able to use their Avios. Read more in my guide to Avios Only flights.
Where does the Aer Lingus Avios-Only flight go to/from?
Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that Aer Lingus are making their first Avios-Only flight extra special. They’re reducing the Avios needed to fly by 50%. For an economy seat that means you’re using just 10,000 return, including a 20kg checked bag and a carry on bag included.
They’re planning – so far – one flight from Dublin to Tenerife. It flies out on the 19th April 2025, and returns a week later on the 26th April 2025.

Will Aer Lingus launch any more Avios-Only flights?
It’s uncertain, but given that BA has been slowly ramping up their Avios-Only flights there’s a good chance that Aer Lingus will add more flights. IAG is all-in on the value of Avios, and sister airline Iberia launched their first Avios-Only flights back in May 2024.
