What’s the offer?Until the 20th November 2024 Finnair are offering generous bonuses
Earlier in 2024 Finnair joined the Avios party, making the points currency of BA (and others) their own. That means there’s another airline who could offer a bonus when you buy Avios through them. Both Qatar and BA have run offers in the past, and now Finnair is following suit.
What’s the offer?
Between 35% and 50% bonus when you buy Avios. You must buy over 4,000 Avios to get a bonus.
You can only purchase Avios in 1,000 increments (starting at 1,000 Avios, and going up to a maximum purchase of 200,000 Avios).
Although this offer is billed as “upto 50% bonus Avios”, it’s the total price of buying the Avios that’s reduced. So whereas 5,000 Avios used to cost €135 (£112), it’s now €87 (£72) . The mechanics mean you still end up with “bonus” Avios versus what you would have got previous for that price.
Finnair will charge you in Euros, so it’s worth putting this transaction through a card that has a good exchange rate, and low or zero XE fees. Finnair accept Amex, Mastercard and Visa.

Is this a good deal?
Yes, this is even cheaper than boosting Avios. That comes out at 0.92p per Avios. In almost all cases you will get more than 0.91p of value from your Avios. If you need Avios quickly then this is a great deal, and there’s no waiting around for the points to land in your account.

Can I transfer Avios from BA to Finnair?
Yes – and it’s pretty easy. See my guide to transferring Avios between BA and Finnair. Do bear in mind the issue I had around 2FA, and also that Avios points in a Finnair account will all disappear eighteen months after the last activity.
There are no limits on how many Avios you can move to your BA account, or from BA to Finnair, other than however many you have in each account.
Be careful as Avios in your Finnair account will disappear if you don’t have any activity in your account in the previous 18 months. Transfering Avios between BA and Finnair does not count as activity.
