Get the top tier with GHA, with some valuable perks.
Status matches make sense if you already use the hotel brand, or you plan to. GHA has launched a generous status match, albeit with some up-front cost. If you have status with another hotel group, or an airline, then this could be a cheap route in to room upgrades, free breakfasts and late checkouts.
What’s on offer with the GHA Discovery Status Match?
GHA is running a status match that allows you to get Platinum or Titanium status, their two highest tiers.
This status match offer runs from the 1st May 2026 to the 1st September 2026. The status you receive will be valid until the end of 2027, giving you 19 months of usage.
You can match in the following ways:
- Through hotel status with another chain. There are sixteen chains they will match against, including Hilton, Marriott and Radisson.
- Through airline status. They will match against thirty-two different airlines, including British Airways, Emirates, Etihad and Lufthansa. Virgin Atlantic is notably missing from this list.
- Through Cruise Line status. This includes Carnival, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Scenic.
- Through having a credit card. This is the most accessible way to upgrade. It’s a little vague, but the wording suggests owning ANY Mastercard or Visa gives you the option of achieving either Platinum or Titanium status. You just have to pay for the match using that card.
Note: When I tried to secure status using just a credit card I was told that this was not possible for UK residents. This is despite the FAQs saying that European Visa and Mastercards would be accepted.
You have to pay a fee for this status match. For the Platinum level, it’s $100 (roughly £73), and for Titanium, it’s $150 (£110).
You will get GHA Discovery Dollars when your status is approved. For the Platinum level, you will get $50 in Discovery Dollars. For Titanium, you get $75. They will appear in your account within ten days of a successful status match.
If you plan to book a stay with a GHA brand soon, the Discovery Dollars will reduce the price of the status match. 45 of the 50 GHA brands allow you to use your Discovery Dollars when you make the booking. The remaining brands allow you to use them at checkout.
That means you could get Titanium status for $75 (£55): the $150 fee minus the $75 credit you get.
Matching with your hotel status
If you have status with one of the major hotel brands you can match that to a GHA Discovery status. Whether you can get Platinum or Titanium status depends on your level with a hotel group.
If you happen to have a Capital On Tap premium card, then you will get Radisson VIP status as a perk. That allows you to match the highest GHA Discovery tier of Titanium.
If you have an American Express Platinum card, then you will get Hilton Gold and Marriott Gold Elite status as a perk. This can be matched to GHA Discovery Platinum, the second-highest tier.

Matching with your Cruise Line status
You can use your Cruise Line status to get GHA Discovery status.

What will GHA Status get you?
I wrote a longer article about GHA Discovery that includes how you earn and spend Discovery Dollars. This covers all four status levels, but here’s a summary of the perks for the two related to the status match.
As well as the perks, there are also two partnerships that offer value. You can get 15% off Beond, the airline that flies a business-class-only cabin to the Maldives, and Platinum and Titanium members get vouchers for Blacklane. You get 4 x $20 if you’re Platinum and 5 x $25 if you’re Titanium. This is a genuinely useful partnership if you want to book transport.
GHA Discovery Platinum Status
This is the second-highest tier in GHA Discovery. You earn 6% of your total hotel spend back a Discovery Dollars. You can then use these to reduce the cost of future stays. This earn rate is increased compoared to the lower tiers.
This is also the first tier in the program that gives you room upgrade perks. Assuming there is availability, you will be upgraded one room type upwards. This could be to a better room, or in some cases it can be the same room type but in a better position (such as a higher floor).
You’ll get a welcome gift when you arrive, and you’ll also get a late checkout perk (up to 3pm).
GHA Discovery Titanium Status
This is the highest attainable status with GHA. You will earn Discovery Dollars at a higher rate then the other tiers: 7% of your hotel spend will be given to you to use on future stays.
This is the only tier with GHA that gives you free breakfast. This can be a very valuable perk, but the GHA brands that we stay with always seem to offer breakfast at the lowest rate.
You get a double room upgrade perk, which means you will get a room two types better than what you booked (assuming there is availability). You get an enhanced late checkout (up to 4pm, versus 3pm for the Platinum status) and an early check-in from 11am.
How do you apply for the Status Match?
The GHA Discovery status match is run by StatusMatch.com. That’s the same company that ran the Royal Jordanian status match that allowed you to get Bronze-like Perks with BA for £38.
The process is advertised as taking sixty seconds – it’s more like two minutes, but it is very fast and easy. You’ll need a few details, like the membership number of the hotel or airline account you’re using to match, and a screenshot showing your status.
- Setup a (free) GHA Discovery account.
- Visit the GHA Discovery status match page. Scroll down the page to find the “Submit your Status Match application” block.
- Enter your name and email, then select the type of match that you want to make and your country.
- On the next page you’ll be asked to select the hotel group or airline that you are matching against. You’ll then be asked to share some details about your status.
- You’ll be asked to share a screenshot confirming yout status. You can also share a photo of a physical card.
- On the final page, you’ll see confirmation of the status match you’re requesting, and then be asked to enter your credit card details. They do accept American Express. The total fee includes VAT, so on the off chance you’re paying for this status match through a business, you could claim it back.
Is it worth paying for the GHA Discovery status match?
Given the cost (Net $50 or $75 when you take into account the Discovery Dollars you get) this is only worth it if you are planning to stay at one of the fifty brands that use GHA Discovery.
The most valuable perks are the free breakfast (Titanium only), the room upgrades (both Platinum and Titanium) and the late checkout.
Certainly, the free breakfast could pay for itself on a long stay if the rate doesn’t already include it. The room upgrade could be an incredible value, but there are no guarantees that you will get it.
I went through the upgrade process because we’re planning on staying at three hotels later this year that use GHA Discovery. All three include breakfast with the rooms we’re looking at booking, so that’s no value to us.
However, if we get just one of the rooms upgraded, that will more than pay for itself. We’ll also get some value from the slightly increased Discovery Dollar earn rate, which we could use on future trips.
