Review: Qatar Premium Lounge, Heathrow T4

How does an out-station lounge stack up against Doha?

Qatar are the king of airport lounges. Their spaces at their home airport of Doha are world-class, on every level. No other lounges come close to their First lounge or their stunning Garden Lounge. That is an incredibly high bar to hit when it comes to their lounges outside of Qatar.

Quick Summary

  • An attractive space that is easily one of the best lounges at Heathrow
  • A strong food offering, with a high-quality buffet and a good a la carte menu
  • Toiletries are from Qatar’s favourite brand: Diptyque
  • The lounge offers great views across the apron
  • The staff are excellent, mirroring what you’ll get once you step onboard a Qatar plane

Where is the Qatar Premium Lounge in T4?

The Qatar Airways Heathrow Terminal 4 Premium Lounge is located next to Gate 1. Turn left out of security and walk past the shops, and you’ll see it on the left-hand side after a short walk.

The lounge itself has a rather unassuming initial entrance. This leads to a much nicer, quite stylish corridor backlit on all sides. With a gentle incline, it’s the perfect entrance into the lounge.

Interestingly, below this lounge is the Qatar frequent-flyer lounge for economy passengers with status and/or guests. Whilst only open part of the time. Guests use the main lounge if the frequent flyer lounge is closed. This is an interesting distinction and approach to how different lounge access passengers are treated.

Qatar and Heathrow

London is a critical hub for Qatar, and they fly up to seven times a day, from their 8:05am flight that gets you into Doha in the afternoon to their 10pm overnight flight, which means you’re landing in Qatar at around 7am. No other city, outside of the Middle East, has anywhere close to this number.

That means that London is one of the few cities where Qatar operates its own lounges. In Europe, they also have a lounge in Paris, while in the Far East, they have spaces in Bangkok and Singapore.

These spaces are better than contract lounges. Manchester passengers have to make do with the 1903 Lounge (although soon that will change) while those flying out of Birmingham use the shared Clubrooms. These are far from the luxury of Qatar’s flagship Garden Lounge in Doha, or their world-class First Class lounge.

Who can access this lounge?

Whilst primarily for Qatar flights, anyone flying oneworld business from T4 or holding Oneworld status can get in. If you have OW Sapphire or Emerald, you can get access to this lounge, or if you’re flying in First or Business Class on an OW airline from T4. Both Malaysian and Royal Air Maroc fly from this terminal.

As the vast majority of oneworld flights are from terminal three or five, this means that – if you’re not flying with Qatar and you come outside of their key flight times – you’re likely in for a quiet and relaxing treat.

A word to the wise – we were flying Royal Air Maroc and the lounge signposted on their site was the Plaza Premium lounge – do not be fooled if that’s where your airline sends you. The Qatar lounge is far superior.

The welcome we received when entering this lounge was probably the best I’ve had in recent memory. The host couldn’t have been nicer, greeting us with a big, open smile and letting us know that all the Qatar flights had just left, so the lounge was very quiet.

In my opinion, first impressions really matter. They set the standard and your expectation for what’s coming. So many lounge front-desk staff act more like bouncers than ambassadors for the space, so the welcome here left a lasting impression.

What’s the lounge like?

The lounge is arranged into three distinct zones, and one wall of the entire lounge is made up of floor-to-ceiling windows. This leads to lots of natural light, making the lounge feel a lot bigger than it actually is.

The first area you meet after entry is a sitting area with self-serve drinks and a wide range of comfy chairs. This space is ideal for a quiet drink or rest, and the chairs extend along the corridor next to the windows.

Next up is the self-serve food area called the ‘Global Deli’. In the centre of this room is a large circular bar – half of which is taken up with a selection of hot and cold food choices, as well as some sweeter options and cheeses.

Tables for eating here are, once again, right next to the window.

Even though this is the informal eating space in the lounge, it still feels far superior to a lot of other lounges – with every table already meticulously laid with cutlery, napkin and glassware. BA could learn a thing or two here.

The other side of the circular island in the centre of this area is the Martini bar. Whilst it’s not huge, it more than does the job. And I loved the oversized leather banquettes at the back of the room.

The last area of the lounge is the à la carte dining space.

This very much feels like a lounge within a lounge – giving a very luxe vibe with ironed tablecloths, muted lighting and a wine fridge wall.

Food and drink in the Qatar lounge

Naturally, we went for the à la carte dining. As it was empty when we arrived, we were invited to sit anywhere. The menu was accessed via a QR code. I know it’s petty of me, but I love a paper menu. The choices are split between a breakfast menu and a combined lunch/dinner offering. This is likely due to the departure times of Qatar’s flights.

On sitting down, we were greeted with a wet towelette. This was not just any towelette, but a Diptyque towel (and it smelled amazing). When it came to food, the seared beef steak with potato gnocchi was screaming my name (not quite as loudly as the stone bass but they’d run out), so the steak it was.

The steak was well-cooked and pretty as a picture. This was rapidly followed by some ice cream – delicious.

Breakfast options included everything from an Indian vegetarian breakfast to a California omelette to pancakes, and a fair bit in between. Alongside the steak and the seabass, the wider lunch offering also included soup, penne puttanesca, chicken chow mein and a chickpea salad.

The food at the buffet was more than enough to feed a family in a rush. Indeed, a family did come in somewhat in a rush as we were leaving, and they were very happy. The staff swooped in on the kids and offered baklava and hot chocolate, and the parents were swiftly served with a glass of wine each.

The drinks in the Qatar lounge

In terms of booze, the self-service offering is much the same as ordering at the bar when it comes to wines, but you’ll have to ask for champagne. If you do, you’ll be offered the choice of Laurent-Perrier Brut or Rose.

I was impressed by the Chablis, and the Pinot Noir was very drinkable – Qatar isn’t skimping when it comes to wine.

After eating, we moved over to the chairs by the windows in the main area of the lounge to watch our plane arriving and then settled in the seating areas at the far end. I then shuffled over to the martini bar and asked the chap for a couple of coffees. He wouldn’t stand for me waiting, and, even though we were sat about as far away as possible, he insisted on bringing them to us. This pretty much sums up the attitude of the staff here. This lounge is very much a place to rest, relax, wine and dine and enjoy oneself.

Facilities in the lounge

I didn’t shower here, but did sneak a photo. They looked lovely with their soft wooden interiors and Diptyque products. These are a lounge standard and a brand Qatar uses on its flights.

In terms of the ‘vibe’ overall (to use what must be the word of 2026), the Qatar Airways T4 lounge is very much quiet, refined and relaxed. Virgin Atlantic clubhouse, this is not, and nor does it want to be. There are no gate announcements, no outlandish art displays, no music. Just a quiet and relaxing space to eat, drink and be merry before your flight.

Final thoughts

Whilst I doubt I’ll be back for a while (my flights don’t tend to leave from T4), I’ll be very happy if and when I am. In terms of overall ranking, this is easily in the top five best lounges at Heathrow. It is a far better lounge for business-class passengers than the BA lounges at T5.
