Uber has launched a new way to earn points
It’s the points-earning partnership that we were waiting for: you can now earn Avios from the takeaways that you get delivered. This expands on the Avios and Uber partnership that already allowed you to earn points whenever you took a ride (or even booked a train)
What’s been announced?
Uber has expanded its relationship with Avios to include its Uber Eats delivery service. You could already earn Avios from Uber rides, which was a useful source of points for those who used the platform. There were some limitations: it only covered travel in the UK and Ireland, but it did include train or bus bookings via the Uber app, as well as money spent on Lime, and even travel on the Uber Boat in London.
What we really wanted, or at least those of us who are more likely to order from Uber Eats every week than take a taxi, was to earn Avios from food deliveries, and that’s now possible
How many Avios do you earn from Uber Eats?
You will earn 1 Avios point for every £1 you spend, on orders of £25 or more. If you’re in Ireland the minimum order value is €25. However, that minimum spend must be reached excluding taxes, fees and any other charges.
You will not earn points if you order from supermarkets or shops. For reasons unknown, these are excluded from the Avios relationship, at least for the moment.
You could still earn 300 Avios when you open up an Uber Eats account, via the Avios Shopping website. It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t already have the app, but on the off-chance that you don’t, then it’s worth the Avios.com site
What about the main Uber app?
You will earn 1 Avios for every pound you spend on taxis (or trains, coaches or the Uber Boat service). If you’re based in Ireland, then you’ll get one point for every €1 you spend.
Both Uber and Uber Eats are “set it and forget it” partnerships. Even if you’re not actively engaging with either service, it’s worth linking them to your BA account in case you do in the future.

How do you link your Uber Eats account and your BA account?
To earn Avios from Uber Eats deliveries, you have to link up your BA and Uber accounts. If you have already done this with the Uber app (not the Uber Eats app) then you do not have to do this again.
Linking your accounts is easy, and you only need to do this once. You will only earn points after they are connected; you cannot retrospectively earn points on bookings prior to this.
I wrote a longer article with screenshots in my guide to connecting Uber and BA, but the basics are:
Linking via the Uber Eats app
- Open up the Uber Eats app
- Click the Settings icon (usually in the bottom right, on the toolbar)
- Scroll down the page and click the British Airways Club button
- Login to your BA account and approve Uber’s access.
Linking via the Uber app
- Open up the Uber app
- Click the Settings icon (usually in the bottom right-hand corner)
- Scroll down to settings, and then scroll down again to the British Airways club.
- Click the “link to start collecting Avios” button, then log in to your BA account.
Across both apps, once you’ve successfully logged in to BA and approved the link with Uber you’ll be taken back to a confirmation page.
How long do Avios points from Uber take to land?
When I’ve earned Avios points from Uber trips, they appear almost immediately. It’s one of the fastest, and reliable, ways to earn points. I expect Uber Eats to be the same, however Uber does say that points will appear in your account within twenty-four hours.
Is it really worth it?
Yes. Every point counts, and if you’re ordering food or a taxi, then you may as well earn some Avios from the transaction. Don’t forget that you will also earn points from a credit card on top of this, so your total earn rate could be 2 or 2.5 points per £ you spend, depending on the card you have.
Spending £100 a month on food delivery would therefore net you 3,000 points a year. That’s not a huge number of points, but neither is it insignificant.
