You can boost an already generous earn rate
Avios Hotels remains our number one source of points. It is entirely possible to take a trip and earn most of the points you need for your next trip through the hotels that you stay in. Those weekends away, or those single night work trips, all create valuable points at no extra cost.
What is Avios Hotels
It’s a way to book hotels and earn Avios. The hotel booking engine is powered by Expedia, meaning that you get access to every hotel that you could book through them. That means almost every hotel on the planet.
For every £ you spend on a hotel, you will normally earn 10 Avios points. That’s often the highest earn rate you can get on a hotel booking. Other ways to earn points on hotels include via the Avios Store, where earn rates are typically between 2 and 8 points per pound. You can also transfer points from some hotel loyalty schemes into Avios, although the transfer rate tends to be quite poor.
The pricing on the Avios Hotels site usually matches Expedia’s pricing, meaning that you are not paying any extra to earn points.
If you want to read more about it, I wrote a long article about Avios Hotels
There’s one big difference between earning Avios via Avios Hotels and booking via a hotel brand listed on the Avios Store: reliability. If you’ve used the Avios Store before, then you’ll know that points aren’t guaranteed to track properly. I would estimate 90% of my transactions end up with points in my account. With Avios Hotels, it’s 100%.

Is there a downside to booking via Avios Hotels?
We’ve booked a lot of hotels over the last few years, and have had absolutely no issues with using Avios Hotels. The only minor downside, and this is the same for any hotel booking website that isn’t the actual brand itself, is that if you have hotel status, then you won’t get perks if you book via an aggregator.
It’s a minor one, but one to consider. For an upcoming trip to the Far East we’ve booked some hotels direct with Hilton becuase we’ll get breakfast for free. Other hotels we’ve booked via Avios Hotels, so we do earn some points from the trip.
When do you get your Avios points?
Officially it takes 31 days for the points to arrive in your account. This is much faster than a hotel booking via the Avios Store, which can take twelve months.
What’s the new Avios Hotels offer?
The earn rate for Avios hotels has increased to 15 points per £. This is for any booking made before midnight on the 27th February 2026, and your stay must have completed by midnight on the 31st August 2026.
A similar offer ran last year, although it was earlier in the year and it covered more of the peak travel booking period in January.
If you have already booked hotels via a refundable rate, and rebooking the room isn’t any more expensive, it could be worth cancelling and booking them again to take part in this offer.
A £2,000 hotel stay will give you 30,000 Avios, worth £300 (If you value Avios at 1p/point). That’s a generous haul of points that could be very useful to you. We’ve rebooked rooms specifically to get a lower rate or earn more points before, but it is absolutely worth checking cancellation conditions and booking the new room first, then cancelling the original room.
Want to get an even higher earning rate?
You can also boost your Avios Hotel points. Don’t confuse this with Avios Balance Boost, although they obviously sound very similar.
- You can boost Avios points via the main Avios.com website. This is called Balance Boosting. This allows you to select historic Avios earning transactions and double, treble or quadruple the points you earned from them.
- You can also boost the points you would earn on a hotels transaction via the Avios Hotels boost.
The latter allows you to increase the points you earn on a hotel booking by paying extra. By committing extra cash, you will get extra points, and at a rate of less than 1p per point. This may not be the most cost-effective way of getting more points.
The Boost option appears on the payments page, which is the first step in the booking process. An example is shown below, where I can buy an additional points for as low as 0.93p per point.
The total Avios, marked in green in the screenshot, is a little deceptive. That includes the Avios you would earn anyway for no extra payment.

It’s worth noting that you will not get your points until after your stay completes. If you need extra Avios now, then using the Balance Boost option, or buying Avios, will give you them straight away.
Is this a good offer?
Yes. The 10 points per £ is already a generous rate. The 15/£ is exceptional.
If you are planning on booking a hotel, and your stay will end before the 31st August 2026, then use this offer before it finishes. Do compare prices between Avios Hotels and other sites. They don’t usually differ, but it’s worth a quick check.
